Privacy Policy
Plain-English. Last updated: 28 May 2026.
This Privacy Policy explains how Sharan Jain (Advocate), operating this website at sharanjain.com (the "Site"), handles information in connection with visits to the Site and submissions through the contact, PIL, Pro Bono, AMA, and Friday Consultation forms. Written in plain English so you can read it in one sitting.
1. Who runs this site
The Site is maintained by Sharan Jain, an advocate practising in Bangalore and appearing across District, Sessions, Consumer, Family, and the Karnataka High Court forums. For any privacy-related question, write to sharanjaincom@gmail.com.
2. The short version
- The Site has no backend, no database, and no analytics.
- Forms open your own email app with the message prefilled — nothing is sent until you click send.
- No cookies are set by the Site.
- The only personal data I see is what you choose to write into an email and send.
- You can ask for access, correction, or deletion at any time under DPDPA 2023.
3. Information collected through forms
The Site is a static website. The PIL, Pro Bono, AMA, Friday
Consultation intake, and Contact forms do not transmit data
to any server controlled by Sharan Jain. Instead, each
form composes an email in your own email client using a
mailto: link. The information you typed is sent only
when you click send in your email app, and only to my email
address.
The contents of that email may include: your name, contact (phone or email), and the substance of your query — exactly what you wrote into the form, nothing more.
4. Information collected automatically
Like every website, the Site is delivered by a web host whose servers may keep standard access logs containing IP address, timestamp, browser user-agent, and the URL requested. These logs are retained by the host for operational and security purposes and are not used by Sharan Jain to build profiles of individual visitors.
5. Cookies and tracking
The Site does not set first-party cookies, run third-party analytics (no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no Hotjar), or use advertising / retargeting tags or session-replay tools. If any analytics are added in future, this policy will be updated and a notice will be shown on the Site.
6. Third-party resources
The Site uses Google Fonts (to load the Inter typeface) and embeds a YouTube video on the Featured section. When you load these resources, Google and YouTube may receive your IP address and standard request headers under their own privacy policies. You can read them at policies.google.com/privacy.
7. Your rights under DPDPA 2023
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information you have shared.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Update outdated information.
- Erase personal information no longer needed for the purpose you shared it.
- Withdraw consent at any time (where consent is the basis for processing).
- Nominate another person to exercise these rights in case of your incapacity or death.
- Grievance redressal — write to me first; if unresolved, you may approach the Data Protection Board.
To exercise any of these rights, email sharanjaincom@gmail.com with the subject line "Privacy Request". I will respond within a reasonable period — typically within 30 days.
Caveat: where the information shared is part of an active legal engagement, applicable rules of professional conduct and statutory recordkeeping obligations may require certain information to be retained.
8. Records retention
Emails from form submissions are retained in my inbox for as long as the matter requires. Where no engagement follows, you can request deletion. Where representation begins, retention follows the Bar Council of India's professional conduct guidelines.
9. Children
The Site is intended for adults seeking general information about legal matters. It is not directed at children under 18. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to write in on your behalf.
10. Security
Because the Site itself does not store personal data, the chief security measure is the encryption of your connection (HTTPS/TLS) provided by the web host, and the protection of the email account that receives your message. You are responsible for the security of the email account you send from.
11. Bar Council compliance
This Site complies with Rule 36 of the Bar Council of India Rules. It does not solicit work, advertise services, or guarantee outcomes. The Friday Consultation is an educational access-to-justice initiative, not a paid service offering.
12. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated to reflect changes in law or in how the Site operates. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the current version. Material changes will be highlighted on the Site for a reasonable period.
13. Contact & grievance officer
